About Clinton, Indiana
Situated on the banks of the Wabash River in western Indiana, Clinton boasts small-town charm and a rich international heritage. At the turn of the century an influx of immigrants settled in the city and surrounding area to work in local mines, sparking an explosion in industry and population.
Although the city is best-known for its Italian heritage, a wide variety of other nationalities also choose to settle in this area. Many southern European immigrants made their home west of Clinton, including individuals from Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. In addition, many individuals from England, Scotland and other western European countries also came to work in local mines.
Today, the past is still celebrated during the annual Little Italy Festival and at one of the nation’s only coal mining museums. With readily accessible rail and highway travel, Clinton has become home to a variety of local businesses and industries with the potential for much more.
